Another Wildlife Management Area (WMA) that we were able to plant for the VT Fish & Wildlife Department is located in Sutton, VT. Calendar Brook WMA is a 413 acre mostly old agricultural property. The property holds a great deer yard and has many small apple trees that dot the old farm fields.
The previous year the VT Fish & Wildlife Department held a timber sale that left on of the old fields open to plant. After careful site evaluation we determined that Gulf Annual Rye would be the best product to plant this year. Gulf Annual Rye works great as a site condition improvement product which this area needed. The long term goal is to convert this Gulf Annual Rye site into a perennial such as Clover, Alfa-Rack Plus, or Extreme which will provide a great food source for 3-5 years.
