2005 Hunting Season Results
Submitted by Dan on September 14, 2006 - 11:06.2005 Vermont Hunting Season
Our 2005 hunting season was one of the most exciting seasons for us. This year we learned how to age a deer by its jaw bone. From this data we have found some exciting things. For example we found that deer who fed on a variety of food plots at 1.5 years of age have a larger bone structure than deer of the same age that feed mainly from forest habitat. Not only did this data help prove to ourselves that we are doing positive things with food plots outside larger antler growth but it helped build neighbor support. Many of these deer were taken from friends around our area that, at first, thought shooting deer near our property would upset us but in fact we were happier to see someone get a deer and then letting us analyze their trophy to see how well our food plot program is working. Although these are not state record deer, they are the stepping stones to producing such trophies.
